It is always a constant struggle for retailers to protect their stock against theft, whilst offering an accessible inventory for customers to purchase. Due to their value and small size Blu-Ray discs are now high on thieves swag lists, and major stores are having to react.

Wal-Mart stores in So Cal are beginning to lock titles behind protective displays, whilst Target has taken the less extreme measure of security casing.

The big fear is that sales will drop if customers have to seek assistance to purchase a title that is locked behind a display. It also prevents reading the back of the case.

Some are calling for empty display cases, but this obviously brings extra costs.
